Construction of the castle as it appears today started in 1601, and was completed eight years later. It is made from wood, and is reinforced with white plaster, which also gives it protection against fire. The castle's nickname is "White Heron". In 1993 it was listed on UNESCO's World Heritage list due to its incomparable worth in the world.
